Why live music matters

Live music for a destination wedding in France

Organising a wedding in France from another country is exciting, but it also requires reliable local suppliers.

Many details need to come together: the venue, the schedule, the ceremony, the cocktail hour, the dinner, the speeches and the evening celebration. Music plays an important role in connecting these different moments and creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment your guests arrive.

Live jazz is particularly well suited to destination weddings because it is timeless, flexible and appreciated by guests of different generations and nationalities.

It can be:

  • soft and emotional during the ceremony;
  • relaxed and welcoming as guests arrive;
  • lively and joyful during the cocktail hour;
  • elegant and discreet during dinner.

Unlike a fixed playlist, a live band can respond to what is happening during the wedding. We adapt the volume, tempo and musical intensity to the setting, the number of guests and the natural rhythm of the day.

If the ceremony finishes later than expected, the cocktail hour moves to another part of the venue or speeches begin earlier, we adjust our performance accordingly.

Booking from abroad

Why international couples choose Dilia Jazz Band

01

Direct booking with no agency fees

When you contact Dilia Jazz Band, you communicate directly with the musicians.

There is no agency commission and no booking platform between you and the band. This keeps the process clear and helps avoid information being lost between several intermediaries.

From the first enquiry to the wedding day, you have one direct point of contact for:

  • availability;
  • line-up options;
  • timings;
  • repertoire;
  • technical requirements;
  • contracts and payment;
  • coordination with your wedding planner.

Our quotes clearly state the selected line-up, performance duration, sound equipment and travel costs.

02

Clear communication in English

We regularly work with English-speaking couples and international wedding planners.

Most of the preparation can be handled by email. We confirm all the essential information in advance, including the date, venue, schedule, setup location, power supply, line-up and different musical moments.

On the wedding day, we can coordinate the essential practical details in English with your planner, venue team and other suppliers.

03

Easy coordination with your wedding planner

We are always happy to work directly with your wedding planner.

Before the wedding, we can discuss:

  • access to the venue;
  • arrival and setup times;
  • ceremony cues;
  • cocktail-hour timings;
  • electrical supply;
  • performance locations;
  • weather backup plans;
  • transitions between different parts of the day.

This means that you do not need to manage the musicians personally during your wedding.

04

A professional and discreet setup

A wedding performance is different from a concert. The musicians need to become part of the atmosphere rather than taking attention away from the couple or their guests.

We arrive early enough to install our equipment, carry out the necessary sound checks and be ready before the guests enter the performance area.

Our setup can be adapted to gardens, terraces, courtyards, vineyards, private estates, bastides and château reception spaces.

From ceremony to cocktail hour, the music follows every moment of your day.
Every moment of the day

Live jazz for every part of your wedding

Every wedding follows a different schedule. You may want music for one specific moment or for several parts of the day.

We can perform during the ceremony, guest arrival, cocktail hour, drinks reception or dinner.

Ceremony music

A subtle, meaningful presence that heightens the emotion of the moment without ever covering the words being exchanged.

Wedding ceremony music

Live music can add a personal and emotional dimension to your ceremony.

Depending on the venue and the atmosphere you want, we can perform during:

  • the arrival of the guests;
  • the entrance of the wedding party;
  • the entrance of the bride or couple;
  • a symbolic ritual;
  • the signing;
  • the recessional.

The ceremony repertoire can include jazz ballads, romantic melodies, French songs and well-known international pieces arranged for our instruments.

You may also request a specific song that has a special meaning for you. We will confirm whether it can be adapted successfully for the chosen line-up.

Cocktail hour and drinks reception

The cocktail hour is the moment for which couples most often choose Dilia Jazz Band.

After the ceremony, guests begin exploring the venue, having drinks, taking photographs and talking to one another. Live music immediately gives this part of the day warmth, movement and personality.

Our repertoire can move naturally between relaxed jazz, bossa nova, French songs, swing and familiar international classics.

The volume remains comfortable for conversation, while the presence of the musicians gives the reception a real sense of occasion.

As the cocktail hour develops, we can gradually increase the energy of the music without turning the performance into a formal concert.

Music during dinner

A duo or trio can also perform during an outdoor dinner or early evening reception.

For dinner, the musical approach is generally softer and more discreet. The aim is to maintain a live atmosphere without interfering with conversations, speeches or service.

We coordinate the timing with your wedding planner so that the band does not perform during important announcements or speeches.

Cocktail hour & evening

Live jazz followed by a DJ

Saxophonist performing live during a wedding cocktail hour in a Provençal garden Live jazz · Cocktail hour

A jazz band and a DJ serve different purposes during a wedding.

Live jazz works particularly well during the ceremony, cocktail hour and beginning of the reception. It provides a human, visual and musical presence while guests meet and enjoy the venue.

A DJ is generally more suitable later in the evening when the focus moves to dancing.

Many couples therefore choose live jazz for the first part of the celebration, followed by a DJ for the evening party. We are used to coordinating this transition with planners and DJs.

Choose the right jazz band line-up

Dilia Jazz Band offers several line-ups depending on the size of your wedding, the venue and the atmosphere you would like to create. We will recommend the most suitable formation rather than automatically suggesting the largest and most expensive option.

Guitar and saxophone duo performing live at a wedding in Provence
The most intimate

Guitar and saxophone duo

Guitar · Saxophone

The duo is our lightest and most intimate line-up.

Jazz guitar provides harmony, rhythm and warmth, while the saxophone carries the melodies and adds an expressive live presence.

The duo is particularly suitable for:

  • wedding ceremonies;
  • intimate weddings;
  • guest arrivals;
  • small cocktail receptions;
  • dinner background music;
  • venues with limited performance space.

It requires a relatively small setup and can fit naturally into many indoor and outdoor environments. The duo creates a refined atmosphere while remaining discreet and flexible.

Wedding jazz trio with guitar, saxophone and double bass
The balance

Guitar, saxophone and double bass trio

Guitar · Saxophone · Double Bass

The trio is one of our most popular line-ups for wedding cocktail hours.

The guitar provides rhythm and harmony, the saxophone brings melody and character, and the double bass adds warmth, depth and a fuller sound.

This formation is particularly well suited to:

  • château weddings;
  • vineyard receptions;
  • garden cocktail hours;
  • bastides and private estates;
  • medium-sized weddings;
  • outdoor drinks receptions.

The trio has more musical presence than the duo while maintaining a comfortable volume for conversations. For many weddings, it offers the best balance between intimacy, energy and visual impact.

Wedding jazz quartet with guitar, saxophone, double bass and drums
The most generous

Guitar, saxophone, double bass and drums quartet

Guitar · Saxophone · Double Bass · Drums

The quartet is our fullest and most energetic line-up.

The drums add drive and rhythmic movement, while the double bass, guitar and saxophone create a complete jazz-band sound.

The quartet works particularly well for:

  • larger weddings;
  • spacious outdoor receptions;
  • long cocktail hours;
  • weddings with a more festive atmosphere;
  • venues where a stronger musical presence is required.

Although the quartet has more energy, the volume and repertoire are still adapted to the wedding setting. It can begin with relaxed background music and gradually become livelier as the cocktail hour progresses.

Our music

A varied repertoire for international weddings

Our repertoire is designed to work naturally during weddings.

We perform a mixture of:

  • jazz standards;
  • swing;
  • bossa nova;
  • French chansons;
  • Latin-influenced pieces;
  • romantic ballads;
  • international classics arranged in a jazz style.

The music can be relaxed and elegant, joyful and rhythmic or more romantic depending on the moment.

Our aim is not to impose a fixed concert programme. We select and adapt the repertoire according to the atmosphere of the wedding and the reaction of the guests.

A typical cocktail-hour performance may begin with soft jazz and bossa nova while guests arrive, then gradually move towards livelier swing, French songs and familiar melodies.

Can we request specific songs?

You are welcome to send us a list of songs or artists that you particularly enjoy.

We cannot guarantee that every piece will work with every line-up, but we will tell you honestly what can be adapted successfully.

For the ceremony, we can often prepare one or more specific pieces for important moments such as the entrance or recessional.

For the cocktail hour, we generally recommend giving the band enough freedom to respond to the atmosphere while taking your musical preferences into account.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you speak English?

Yes. We regularly communicate in English with international couples, wedding planners and venue teams.

Most of the preparation can be completed by email, and all important practical details are confirmed clearly in advance.

Can we book directly with the band?

Yes. You book directly with Dilia Jazz Band.

There is no agency commission, booking platform or unnecessary intermediary between you and the musicians.

Can you work with our wedding planner?

Yes. We can coordinate directly with your wedding planner regarding timings, access, setup, technical requirements and the different musical moments of your wedding.

Can you play during the ceremony?

Yes. We can perform during the arrival of the guests, entrances, signing, symbolic moments and recessional.

You can also request specific pieces for the most important moments.

Can we book the band only for the cocktail hour?

Yes. Many couples book us specifically for the cocktail hour or drinks reception.

This is one of the most natural moments for live jazz because guests are talking, moving around and enjoying the venue.

How long do you usually perform?

Cocktail-hour performances generally last between two and three hours, depending on your schedule and the chosen format.

The performance may be divided into several musical sets with short breaks between them. We will recommend a format suited to your wedding timeline.

Do you provide sound equipment?

Yes. We provide the sound equipment required for most ceremonies, cocktail hours and wedding receptions.

We generally need access to a suitable electrical supply and a clear, stable area for the musicians.

Can you perform outdoors?

Yes. We regularly perform in gardens, vineyards, courtyards, terraces and private estates.

The musicians and electrical equipment must be protected from rain and strong direct sunlight. A stable and covered backup location should always be planned.

What happens if it rains?

For outdoor weddings, we strongly recommend agreeing on a backup location with your venue or wedding planner before the wedding day.

If the weather changes, we will adapt to the planned alternative location as smoothly as possible.

How much space does the band need?

The required space depends on the selected line-up.

A duo requires only a compact area, while a trio or quartet needs more room for the musicians, instruments and sound equipment. We can discuss the available space directly with your venue or wedding planner.

Can you move between different parts of the venue?

This depends on the distance between the locations and the amount of equipment that needs to be moved.

For example, a separate ceremony and cocktail-hour setup may require additional preparation or equipment. We will confirm what is practical after reviewing the schedule and venue layout.

Can we choose the songs?

You can share your musical preferences and any songs that are particularly important to you.

For a ceremony, we can discuss specific pieces in advance. During the cocktail hour, we combine your preferences with a repertoire selected to suit the atmosphere.

How early should we book?

Peak-season Saturdays between May and September are often booked well in advance.

It is therefore best to contact us as soon as you know your date and venue. However, you can still enquire about last-minute availability.

Where do you travel?

We perform throughout Provence and the South of France, including Avignon, the Luberon, Aix-en-Provence, the Vaucluse, the Var, Montpellier and the French Riviera.

For weddings outside our usual area, travel expenses and practical arrangements will be clearly included in the quote.
